Hello! My name is Glenna Mae Tomboc, and I am in the tenth grade. I am taking media studies to further my knowledge about creating and knowing the industry of films. I figured that since I watch a variety of films and shows, that I should take this class to understand the difficult work being put into the films and shows I consume daily. Not only did I want to expand my knowledge, but as a creative person, I wanted to see if I can also make something visually pleasing and enjoyable. I believe I will find this class very entertaining and thought-provoking.
A few things about myself is that I enjoy watching. I'm not that picky when it comes to subtitles and dubs, as I know there are a lot of great options when you watch something that may or may not be in the language that you know. My interest in watching a lot of films and shows stem from my father, who is an avid watcher himself. He would show many films when I was young and I could probably name many things that I remember from the movies he would show. He would mostly show movies from the late 80s to late 90s as he owns a bunch of DVDs (do people still use those?) and since then I have broadened my taste.
What I watch usually comes and goes. I used to be a big fan of the shows that were popular on Netflix, then I became a big fan of anime, then I stopped watching things in general because of academic stress. When the pandemic came, I found myself with more time to watch. I sat down in the living room with my father many times and we would watch movies that were on Youtube or Netflix. Most of them we've never heard before, and a lot of them weren't that good to me. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed watching them.
Right now I'm a fan of dramas, more specifically Korean Dramas because my friends were into them and I wanted to see why they really liked them. Though I've only watched a few so far, I've enjoyed them, and I want to keep enjoying them.
There are a few things about myself that I've shared in this post relating to films and the reason why I enjoy watching them. That said, I so far really like this class even if the work is hard and the material is super brand new to me. Overall, what you could take from this post is that I like watching a variety of media and taking in new information.
